Portugal is being used as a platform to the Russia-Iran-China alliance; it was in Portugal that this alliance had its first major manifestations. Russia has been expanding its presence in Portugal and helping in the process its allies: the goal is to work side by side with China in economic projects in Europe and Africa and to manipulate Iran to Russia’s geopolitical strategies, namely desestabilizing the Middle East, some regions of Africa and targeting some individuals listed by Putin’s criminal regime as its top enemies. Iran – especially the Quds Force – is instrumental for Russia to perform some dirty jobs they do not want to be associated with.
It is a well known fact that Portugal hosts one of the largest russian intelligence stations in Europe: there are numerous undercover Russia agents (from FSB and GRU) operating freely in Portugal, some of them covering Spain as well. Portugal offers a series of “ammenities” perfectly fit for adversarial regimes’ agents that Spain does not necessarily provide, at least, to the same extent. Russia has historically taken advantage of its ties to portuguese-speaking countries in Africa, which are countries of the outmost importance for Putin’s (and Kremlin’s top officials and ideologues, such as Aleksandr Dugin, also known as the “spiritual Putin”) grand strategy. Portugal is therefore the right spot for Russia’s intelligence community to settle down, connecting Africa with western Europe – and then reporting to Moscow.
Putin’s Russia not only has most certainly the largest intelligence station located in Portugal (working alongside China and Iran), but also the most operative one – Russia’s agents are everywhere, they manage to identify the critical decision-making centers and to impose an overdue influence over people with privileged access to portuguese political power circles. Besides, of course, to infiltrate themselves in the decision-making centers at every level, including at the local level. This was precisely what happened in the portuguese county of Setúbal run by Mayor André Martins from portuguese Communist Party (PCP). The Communist Party and its leader, Jerónimo de Sousa, are shaming the portuguese people – since they are truly showing their true anti-democratic, totalitarian nature – by supporting Putin’s crimes in Ukraine. The Communist Party is endorsing the most inhumane imperialism. The imperialism of war crimes. The imperialism of anti-semitism. The imperialism of death and tragedy. Nothing new to see here then. What is truly – and shockingly – original is that the portuguese Communist Party (an anachronic element of portuguese party system) was backed by portuguese Prime-Minister, António Costa. Everytime António Costa speaks out about the Ukraine’s invasion by Russia, it sounds like the portuguese socialist Prime-Minister is flirting with Putin. Up to this moment, António Costa has been unable to express a truly genuine manifestation of solidarity or even compassion to the Ukrainian people. Remember that the portuguese government refused to stand up and applaud President Zelensky’s speech at portuguese house of democracy, Assembleia da República (portuguese Parliament), last April, the 21st) so that not to offend Putin’s feelings.
This time the situation is far worse though: André Martins, mayor of portuguese county Setúbal, affiliated to portuguese Communist Party, authorized that an association led by a Putin-acolyte living in Portugal, Igor Khashin, hosted refugees from Ukraine, collecting all kinds of personal data. Igor Khashin supported André Martins’ run for Setúbal’s Mayor, being always very close to the communist party’s political campaigns. André Martins was Igor Khashin’s godfather in Setúbal: in fact, in 2015, André Martins introduced Igor Khashin to Maria de Dores Meira, former Setubal’s mayor.
Antonio Costa, alongside hungarian Putin’s ally Viktor Órban, is the most energetic lobbyst for Putin’s vaccine Sputnik in Europe
Back then, communist André Martins had full conscience that Igor Khashin was working for Putin’s criminal regime. Still, communist Setubal’s Mayor decided to embrace a russian intelligence center right at the heart of Setubal’s county. Why FSB (russian intelligence) picked Setubal as one of their top priority locations in Portugal? Simple: Setúbal is controlled by the Communist Party, which is a longtime and loyal ally of Putin’s regime; Setúbal has an important Sea Port that is highly appreciated by Russia and its allies, China and Iran. The triangle Russia-Iran-China started to be formed in Portugal – and Setúbal has been very important in this process. Do not forget that in Setúbal region is located Barreiro, a very attractive – for many reasons – spot for both russians and iranians.
What is absolutely despicable is the way portuguese Prime-Minister reacted to the news that André Martins and his partner, Igor Khashin, a russian agent operating in Portugal who reports directly to Putin’s inner circle, is collecting intel about Ukrainian refugees for the FSB. Instead of strongly condemning – which was the natural reaction for a Prime-Minister of a country which is a NATO and USA’s ally, supposedly a liberal-democracy – PM António Costa decided to protect André Martins and the Communist Party, objectively taking Russia’s side. As incredible as this may sound, António Costa treated the infringement of Ukrainian refugees as…desinformation! That this was just a card played by the Honorable Ambassador of Ukraine to Portugal, Inna Ohnivets, to fool the portuguese people… However, this is not about the socialist party as a whole – the brave socialist opposition leaders from Setúbal are doing a great job denouncing the Communist Party. It is time for them to call upon their leader António Costa for the systematic whitening of russian criminal regime’s acts.
Above: portuguese PM’s first reaction to (another) scandal of personal data being given to Kremlin from Portugal. He said that infringing Ukrainian refugees’ rights was nothing but…an information game by Ukraine…That this was just another fake news! This is the usual way of Antonio Costa leading with unpleasant news for his interests. Sometimes he asked other people to step up to attack his critics or anyone – even the Ukraine’s Ambassado if necessary be – who might undermine his interests or objectives. And a good relationship with Russia, China and Iran has been a top priority of António Costa’s government.
The portuguese Prime-Minister was incapable of saying that André Martins’ wrongdoings were just intolerable: his motivation might have been to protect his strategy to forge a special relationship with Russia in Africa, his top foreign policy’s priority to engage in (really!) close cooperation with Communist China (which is, by the way, another portuguese Communist Party’s strategic ally and André Martins’ friend) – and not to undermine his Minister of Transportation, Pedro Nuno Santos ‘ authority. Nuno Santos is a far-left socialist with a very special and friendly relationship with the portuguese Communist Party – working as a sort of liaison agent of António Costa’s socialist government for keeping the portuguese Communist Party under their strict structiny. In fact, the portuguese Communist PArty supported António Costa’s government from 2015 to 2021. Without the portuguese Communist Party, António Costa would most likely never have become PM. Socialist Costa owes that to Jerónimo de Sousa, portuguese Communit Party’s leader, an ardent supporter of Putin’s imperialist war crimes.
Well, truly speaking, portuguese PM António Costa does not have any moral authority to condemn communist André Martins’ attack on the security of Ukrainian refugees: after all, Costa is protecting Alexandre Guerreiro, former portuguese intel analyst, who have been pulling the strings in portuguese power (sometimes on the backstage, sometimes on the spotlight) in favor of Russia, Iran and China – and against his two main targets: the United States of America and Israel. Alexandre Guerreiro is deemed to be also vey active in Setúbal region, near the Sea Port, promoting Iran and Russia’s major interests. The portuguese people understand that keeping Alexandre Guerreiro in a vital center of the portuguese government means that the portuguese socialist government stands with Russia, or at the least, intends to keep a position as neutral as possible (an ambivalence that just serves Russia’s interests). Deeds speak louder than words. Eyes wide open in any contact with portuguese government or (alleged) officials…
